Who Wants Their Website To Soar Up The Google Charts? More traffic, more people, more status, more money, better positioning…
Who wants to be known as the “GURU” or the “BEST” and stand out from the crowd?
It’s just like being in the “A” group at school. Everyone wants to be your friend and wants to play with you.
How do you do that on the internet?
One way is to have a lot of websites “looking” at you. And it’s not that hard!
I’m sure you read lots of posts and stuff and all manner of info on the net. Well, don’t read another thing until you get a gravatar.
What is a gravatar?
A gravatar, or globally recognized avatar, is quite simply an image that follows you from site to site appearing beside your name when you do things. Avatars help identify your posts on blogs and web forums, so why not on any site?
How did my sites soar up the Google Charts? One way is when I’m surfing the net and reading posts I make comments on those posts.
Imagine next time you read a post on a really popular site. You make a comment and your gravatar is embedded with your name, email(not displayed) and your website URL.
Gee, a backlink from this very popular site, with maybe a Page Rank of 3 or 5 on the home page and no PR on the post page. Doesn’t matter, it’s all passed along – the point being, you’ve got one of the popular kids on the block looking at you.
Here’s the thing – you’re reading stuff anyway so you may as well go another minute so go and get a gravatar as well to make the whole picture complete.
How do I get a gravatar?
Signing up for a gravatar.com account is FREE, and all that’s required is your email address. Once you’ve signed up you can upload your avatar image and soon after you’ll start seeing it on gravatar enabled sites!
Just good neighbourly bonding and blogging and good SEO really.

So if I make a comment here and now, my gravatar should come up. All I have to do is fill in my details – as per when I created the gravatar – and it will automatically insert ‘said’ gravatar.
Oh well, here goes!
P.S. Good article Peter.

I’m not sure that I got this gravatar thing right (I’m a bit slow – but I can lift heavy things…)
Like how do I embed the url?

so now it’s my turn to test this…

That’s kind of spooky (the photo too) but I like it – PS you need to use your gravatar nickname for the magic to work

See, that wasn’t so hard was it! and now you have a backlink to your website, cool!

G’day Peter,
Great article. I already have received traffic from a site I posted to last week (according to Google Analytics).

Mark,
Good to see you’ve got your gravatar and good to see your posts are getting traffic already.
