We’re running some tests this week on some WordPress Plugins that will automatically take your post and send it to your Twitter account. And then if you’re like me you’ll have your Facebook account linked to your Twitter account so just making that 1 post will send it to 3 different places.

Why is that good? Because it means triple the exposure.

But you might say “But they’re not really quailfied visitors” and you’d probably be right, to a point.

They obviously do have some interest in your subject or they wouldn’t have followed the link in your post. You might never make direct money from some of these visitors but there is a positive side spin.

That’s what’s so beautiful! You’ve taken the time to write an article or “post” so why not have as many readers and traffic as possible with no effort at all?

This is where it gets really sexy – all those “posts” become a back link to your site which basically means lots of “people” are “looking” back at you. And in the “Search Ranking & Traffic War”, that’s a very good thing. Just like back in the old school days – it’s just like being a part of the “IN” crowd – if you’re “IN”, everyone wants to know you – it’s the same online.

I did a test the other day with this and within 1 minute and 4 seconds I’d had 36 visitors! 1/3 of them were “bots” and that’s fine, it all means traffic and a back link. (Yes, I know you want longer staying and qualified visitors but it’s all valid in the online ranking war)

Is it all you need to do with your site? Of course not but it’s a no brainer because once it’s set up – you do absolutely nothing!

OMG, my Facebook account got hacked… and then suspended.

Are You at Risk? We hear about these things but never really think it’ll happen to us. It just happened to me!

I got an email with this as the subject line – “Security Alert from Facebook”. I thought it was a scam, “Yeah right, like I’m going to fall for that one”.

This was the opening dialogue – “Hi Peter,

Our systems indicate that your Facebook account has been compromised by cybercriminals attempting to impersonate you. These criminals often will try to trick your friends into sending them money by claiming that you are stuck in a far away location and need assistance. It is possible that your email account was compromised as well…”

It had a strange reply email address along with an odd web address to “update” your info. You can understand my scepticism.

I was just going to ignore it and move on but when I went to log in to my Facebook account – “Account Disabled!”

OMG, it was true. I was “Facebook-LESS”. The short story version of the “fix” was I replied to the email, updated all my email passwords and followed all the other instructions but I had to wait another 36 hours before my account was reactivated. Luckily, everything was still intact in my account, I was sweating on that cause I’d loaded a lot of video’s and stuff.

The other worry was “Had these criminals tricked any friends into sending money?” Apparently not, that was lucky! I’d hate to see your money wasted with a stranger. But, hey, if you’re feeling generous, I’m always good for more cash – Let’s go with that part – my PayPal account is 😆 xx xxx xx.

The moral of the story is stuff like this can happen to you and does happen to people close to you.

A “Pleasing To a Man’s Eye” Video and Bonus Lead Generation Tip!

To have a lead generating and new client pumping machine we need to tune in to our “A” type client. Like we’re actually sitting down having a conversation about what’s going on in  their life. As we would with a friend.

Trouble is, for a lot of us, something strange happens when we sit down to write. It’s almost like we put a hat on called ‘legal speak’ and we write like we’re a lawyer or something. What is that about?

Here’s a neat trick to help overcome that, a very short video that’s ‘pleasing to the eye’ with a good tip, enjoy. (Plus it was the end of the week and I hadn’t done a post and I wanted “out of my office” and this was quick and fun)

I made a “Post” blunder on Monday on my www.SmarterWebsites.com.au site. I stuffed up.

I needed to narrow the niche that I’m marketing too so I was refining my lead generation “Funnel” on my site. Trouble is I forgot that the auto update was turned “On” so the edit that I did went out automatically to my list.

This would have been the starter of the email you got…

Really am sorry about that, it was just an internal site edit and wasn’t supposed to go out.

Anyway, the blessing is that it’s a good subject for a post.

Are the leads that you’re harvesting “qualified”, or anywhere near the mark of the “Ideal Client” for you?

It’s a valid question.

I had people signing up left, right and centre but in running them through my “process” I realized that in building this list some of these leads weren’t after what I was offering. Now, you could argue that it doesn’t matter because it’s all done online that it doesn’t cost me anything.

Well, yes, and the extra traffic to my site can be a good thing for ranking but obviously if we can all refine our process to attract that “Ideal Client” then the faster our business will grow and the quicker we’ll slip into the serious money stream.

Un-qualified traffic can also be a negative too – if they come to your site and leave quickly that will increase your “bounce rate” which is the percentage of single page visits. This is bad if it’s too high, it means they’re not finding what they came for. Google God demerit point!

The point being, always “Test and Measure”.

  • Check your offer – how many clicks on your offer (Your button or newsletter opt-in) compared to new visitors?
  • How many people are then following through and filling in their details to get your stuff?
  • How many “unsubscribes” down the track?
  • How many convert into a paying client?

Here’s a quick starter check hit list – In Google Analytics (which we install on all our sites – that was subtle “sell” on one of the many sexy things we do) you should be looking to compare – “new visits” to “click throughs to your opt in page” to “actual opt ins”.

Test and measure and refine always. Websites are a work in progress!
