I’ve been keeping an eye out for the next version of WordPress. They’ve been doing beta testing on 2.9 but lo and behold they’ve done a mini update in the form of 2.8.5 – these guys are so committed to security.
According to the official WordPress blog this is not an urgent upgrade, but it has the goal of hardening your install, so upgrading is recommended. The headline changes in this release are:
- A fix for the Trackback Denial-of-Service attack that is currently being seen.
- Removal of areas within the code where php code in variables was evaluated.
- Switched the file upload functionality to be whitelisted for all users including Admins.
- Retiring of the two importers of Tag data from old plugins.
Stay tuned for 2.9.0 which should be coming out next month as well. This one should bring some cool new features for WP users.
